Palmetto GBA has been selected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to serve as the new A/B Medicare Administrative Contractor (A/B MAC) for Jurisdiction 1 (J1), which includes the states of California, Hawaii and Nevada, the territories of American Samoa and Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
We are pleased to introduce the J1 Palmetto Team to you and your staff. The Palmetto Team is comprised of three large, highly successful Medicare contractors: Palmetto GBA, TrailBlazer Health Enterprises, and First Coast Service Options. The benefit of this exceptional partnership is the integration of the strengths and experience of each team member to form a seamless operational environment providing superior services to the J1 Medicare community.

Note: Regardless of the date of service, all claims processing, customer service and payments will be handled by the J1 MAC upon the cutover operational dates above. Outgoing contractors will transfer all pending and in-process operations to the J1 MAC at that time.

The Transition to Palmetto GBA
Our primary goal is to manage this transition seamlessly with as few disruptions as possible to the Medicare providers and beneficiaries in J1. The Palmetto Team has developed detailed plans to assume the workloads of J1 and to ensure that the Medicare community continues to receive the same high levels of service.

Our comprehensive communications plan will ensure that you receive consistent, open and clear information through multiple channels describing the changes you can expect and the key dates.

We will establish and maintain partnerships with key medical and professional associations, providers and provider groups who will provide valuable feedback from the local medical community and assist in determining the most effective approaches for disseminating transition relations.

As early in the transition as possible, we will ensure that you have the detailed information you need regarding all aspects of Medicare processing including, but not limited to, claims processing, appeals, Electronic Data Interchange, Electronic Funds Transfer, customer service, provider enrollment and credentialing, Local Coverage Determinations and ongoing provider outreach and education.
