Medicare Fee-For-Service (FFS) National Provider Identifier (NPI) Implementation Contingency Plan
Following the April 2nd release of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) Contingency Guidance for all covered entities, the Medicare FFS health plan announced its contingency plan for NPI implementation.
In this plan, as soon as Medicare considers the number of claims submitted with an NPI for primary suppliers is sufficient, Medicare (after advance notification to suppliers) will begin rejecting claims without an NPI, perhaps as early as July 1 2007. More details on the Medicare FFS Contingency Plan are available on CMS' Web site.
