DMEPOS Suppliers and Sharing Space
Please keep in mind only one supplier number may be assigned to any given physical location. All physical locations must be recognized by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
If there are multiple businesses at the same physical location, only one of the businesses may receive a Medicare DMEPOS supplier number. Also, the other businesses must not use the issued supplier number under any circumstances.
'Physical location' is not necessarily defined as one building. If there are valid suites in the building recognized by the USPS, each suite is considered a separate location for the purposes of obtaining a Medicare DMEPOS supplier number. The key word is 'valid'. Sharing a suite with another business by creating a suite number that is not recognized by the USPS will not suffice and would not be considered an 'appropriate site'. If the supplier is not operating its business from a valid physical location, it will not receive a supplier number.
In order to be in compliance with supplier standard #7, the supplier must maintain 'a physical facility on an appropriate site. The physical facility must contain space for storing business records including the supplier's delivery, maintenance, and beneficiary communication records ''
Unannounced site visits are conducted and research is completed to validate all physical addresses. This is a routine part of the application process.
