Effective 8/18/08-SADMERC Transition to NAS PDAC
Noridian Administrative Services, LLC (NAS) has been named the Pricing, Data Analysis and Coding (PDAC) Contractor by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. By August 18, 2008, NAS will perform the following activities that Palmetto GBA, as the Statistical Analysis DME Regional Carrier (SADMERC), currently performs:
- Provide data analysis support to the DME Program Safeguard Contractors (PSCs)
- Guide manufacturers and suppliers on the proper use of the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) for Medicare billing purposes through product reviews and decisions, the DME Coding System (DMECS), and the HCPCS Helpline
- Conduct national pricing functions for DMEPOS services
- Assist CMS with DMEPOS fee schedules
Until the PDAC Web site, www.dmepdac.com, is launched, please continue to reference the SADMERC Web site for transition updates and information.
Transition Key Points/Dates:
- The HCPCS Helpline will not be available beginning August 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. CT. It will be available again on August 18 at 8:30 a.m. CT.

The Statistical Analysis Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier (SADMERC) is a national entity that provides services under contract to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The SADMERC Reports and Analysis Unit provides data analysis support to the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Program Safeguard Contractors (PSCs). The SADMERC HCPCS Unit offers guidance to manufacturers and suppliers on the proper use of the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), the means by which durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) services are identified for Medicare billing. Additionally, the SADMERC performs a variety of national pricing functions for DMEPOS services, assists CMS with the DMEPOS Fee Schedules, and analyzes DMEPOS fees to identify unreasonable or excessive reimbursement amounts.
Manufacturers and suppliers are instructed by CMS and the DME MACs to contact the SADMERC HCPCS Unit to obtain proper billing codes for DMEPOS items. In addition to coding assistance, manufacturers and suppliers may also obtain Fee Schedule prices.
