Save Time and a Phone call - Check Your Claim Status and Details

Published 10/04/2023

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires providers use self-service tools to obtain claim status/claim details.

For your convenience, Palmetto GBA offers the following self-service tools for providers wishing to check the status/details of a claim:

Claim Status and Details in the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Telephone System
Use the IVR to check claim status and details. You can find instructions for using the IVR, including an IVR Flowchart, to obtain claim status and details in the JJ Part B IVR Article, JM Part B IVR Article, JJ Part A IVR Article and JM Part A IVR Article and/or the HHH IVR Article.

The IVR provides claim status information 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with limited functionality outside of normal business hours.

Claim Status and Details in the eServices Portal
Log into the Palmetto GBA eServices portal to check the status of a claim and find claim details. Instructions for enrolling and using the eServices portal are available on the Palmetto GBA eServices login page. eServices is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with limited functionality outside of normal business hours.

Claim Status and Details in the Direct Data Entry (DDE) System
Part A and Home Health providers with access to the DDE system can check the status of a claim immediately after the claim is updated/entered in DDE. You can find instructions in the DDE User's Guide

Claim Status and Details from the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) System
Providers enrolled in EDI can send a Health Care Claim Status Request (276 transaction) electronically and receive a Health Care Claim Status Response (277 transaction) back. You can find information about the 276 and 277 transactions in the “Medicare 276/277 Companion Guide” available on EDI's Webpage.
