Palmetto GBA Wins 2017 Best Practice Award

Palmetto GBA's “Integrating Audit and Internal Controls with Ethics and Compliance” submission was approved for a 2017 Best Practice Award by the Health Ethics Trust and it Best Practices Committee. Selection for this best practice award recognizes that Palmetto GBA has demonstrated that the ongoing efforts of the compliance program support strong internal controls.

Palmetto GBA's Internal Audit Department works in conjunction with the Compliance Unit to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and existence and effectiveness of its activities and internal controls. Together the Internal Audit Department and Compliance Unit ensure all processes in place within Palmetto GBA are audited and that customer requirements are addressed.

In order to be selected as a Best Practice for Integrating Audit and Internal Controls with Ethics and Compliance, a company must demonstrate it meets multiple criteria in the areas of established policies and procedures, provided detailed documentary evidence of segregation of duties, ongoing associate training, checks and internal verification within business units and conduct risk assessments of the entire organization.

In October, Susan Wilson, Internal Audit Manager, attended the 2017 Healthcare Best Compliance Practices Forum in Arlington, Virginia to accept Palmetto GBA's award. At this event, Ms. Wilson gave a presentation describing how Palmetto GBA has successfully integrated Audit and Internal Controls with Ethics and Compliance. This is Palmetto GBA’s fourth Health Ethics Trust Award.
