Goals/Purpose

Our goals are to:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Palmetto GBA staff and the provider community
  • Meet with Palmetto GBA and the provider community on a quarterly basis
  • Provide the communication tools to facilitate thorough and prompt transfer of information to and from each representative
  • Coordinate the issues within the provider community to adequately reflect the concerns of the majority

It is Palmetto GBA’s intent to:

  • Promote an atmosphere that facilitates an exchange of ideas and information to service the best interests of Medicare providers and Palmetto GBA’s Medicare program administration
  • Provide educational forums that address various global provider concerns
  • Allow the provider community an opportunity to communicate with Palmetto GBA’s staff on any areas that may need additional education activities
  • Assist in making the Medicare program more understandable for providers
  • Enhance providers’ understanding of the role and responsibilities of Palmetto GBA as their A/B Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC)

  • MACtoberfest Topics
    • Providers were asked to provide feedback on topics they would like to hear covered in any one of the MACtoberfest sessions — no member feedback or questions provided
  • Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) Lookup Tool Outages/MBI Submission Deadline/Outreach Calls
    • There are no plans to discontinue the MBI Lookup Tool after 12/31/19
    • Only the MBI will be accepted as of 01/01/20
    • POE implemented an outreach initiative to reach out to the top providers who are still submitting the social security based Medicare numbers instead of the MBI
    • The MBI may be obtained through the beneficiary, eServices, and the remittance advices
    • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announces several upcoming outages to the Medicare MBI Lookup Tool. Please be aware the scheduled outages are subject to change. The maintenance time is estimated by CMS.

  • Hurricane Dorian
    • Solicited feedback from members concerning providers who may have been affected by the recent Hurricane. Providers stated they have not received any reports to suggest hardship waivers are needed. They will contact POE if they hear anything.
    • CMS has announced that efforts are currently underway to support Georgia in response to Hurricane Dorian and the Public Health Emergencies declared there. CMS is working to ensure hospitals and other facilities can continue operations and provide access to care in the aftermath of Dorian.
    • Information on the actions that CMS is taking concerning Hurricane Dorian can be found in Special Edition MLN 19019
  • In-Person POE-AG meetings (2020)
    • Face-to-face meetings in each Jurisdiction state (along with our normal teleconferences) will take place in 2020
    • Members will send us information concerning possible location spaces

Agenda Items Requested By Members

  • Critical Care
    • Provider wanted more education from Palmetto GBA concerning critical care and mid-level billing
    • I will compile all of the critical care education that we have on our website to see what’s actually covered and what needs to be added

Open Discussion
Member requested that Palmetto GBA add education that addresses any type of audit that providers may face, even those not conducted by Medicare. Member stated that it will assist providers in identifying the different types of audits.
