For hospice claims, type of bill 81x and 82x, if the admission date and the 'From' date of the claim are the same, then Occurrence Code (OC) 27 is required along with the certification date.
If the type of bill is 81A or 82A, then OC 27 and the date of certification are always required regardless of whether the admission date and from date are the same.
Explanation and Suggestion
OC 27 is required on all hospice notices of election (NOEs) and initial claims following a hospice election.
The date included with OC 27 should match the 'From' date and the 'Admit' date.
Ensure the dates on TOBs 8X1 or 8X2 include OC 27 and that the dates for OC 27 match the 'From' and 'Admit' dates.
