If you need to add late charges to a claim with a medically denied line, you can now do it through FISS/DDE. File a corrected claim and add the late charges. Do not make any changes to the medically denied lines; leave the charge as non-covered. Once the corrected claim pays, you can then appeal the medically denied lines. The timeline for filing an appeal begins from the paid date of the original claim, regardless of when you add the late charges. Please do not file an appeal asking that late charges be added. Appeals will no longer add the late charges, but contact the provider asking that the appeal be withdrawn and the late charges be added online.
