A previous MLN Matters article (MM4215) noted a change involving the consulting codes, stating that a consult (CPT codes 99241–99255) could not be split/shared. Since Medicare no longer covers these codes, and the above does not mention consults, but refers to all Evaluation and Management (E/M) visits, it appears that split/shared consults are allowed. However, please note that the physician must have done a face-to-face visit for the billing to be shared.
