HCPCS Modifier G0

Description
Telehealth services for diagnosis, evaluation or treatment of symptoms of an acute stroke.

Guidelines and Instructions
This modifier is submitted to identify acute stroke telehealth services performed on and after January 1, 2019.

This modifier is valid for:

• All telehealth distant site codes billed with Place of Service (POS) code 02, or Critical Access Hospitals (CAH), CAH method II (revenue codes 096X, 097X, or 098X)
• Telehealth originating site facility fees billed with HCPCS code Q3014

The distant site practitioner and, as appropriate, the originating site, will append this modifier to the HCPCS code when billing for an acute stroke telehealth service or an originating site facility fee, respectively. Practitioners will be responsible for assessing whether it would be clinically appropriate to use this modifier with codes from the Medicare telehealth list.
