Medicare Beneficiary Identifier: Get It, Use It

Published 11/13/2024

Use Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers (MBIs) for all Medicare transactions.

There are three ways you and your office staff can get a patient's MBI: ask your Medicare patient, use Palmetto GBA's secure eServices MBI Lookup Tool, and check the remittance advice. You will need the beneficiary’s first name, last name, date of birth, and SSN to use the Palmetto GBA eService MBI Lookup Tool.

For more information, please review the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services's (CMS) Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers website.
