Why am I being asked to enter an email address and a cell phone number when I register for the portal?

Answer
To enhance the security of Medicare data, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services (CMS) requires Palmetto GBA to adhere to several security requirements. Some of these security features require the user to verify their identity using their email address.

The optional "Mobile Phone" field and "Carrier" fields give MyRRMed users the option to receive their Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) code via text message instead of email. Upon each log in, users are required to enter an MFA code in addition to their password to access MyRRMed. CMS requires Medicare contractors use MFA as a secondary level of security to protect beneficiary data. You may learn more about MFA in the Login section of the MyRRMed User Manual (PDF).
