Important Information for Physicians Ordering Durable Medical Equipment: New Prior Authorization Requirements

Medicare is implementing prior authorization requirements for two categories of durable medical equipment (DME): Group 2 pressure-reducing support surfaces (PRSS) and power mobility devices/power wheelchairs (PMD). If you are a physician who has occasion to write orders for DME items in these categories, these letters are intended for you. Select the applicable “Dear Physician” letter below to learn how to navigate the prior authorization process for your patients that require PRSS treatment or a power mobility device.
